Ficto-Objectum sexuality
Attraction to fictional anthropomorphic object characters
Overview
Ficto-Objectum is an orientation which encompasses romantic/sexual attraction to anthropomorphic object characters, otherwise known as animate objects. To be ficto-objectum, the fact that the character is an object must be integral to the attraction.Ficto-Objectum can either be exclusive attraction to animate objects, or it can be another orientation in addition to attraction to real humans (semi ficto-objectum).It is up to the individual whether they want to consider their ficto-objectum orientation queer. It is undeniably within GRSM (gender, romantic, and sexual minorities) and MOGAI (marginalized orientations, gender alignments, and intersex). Not many people are ficto-objectum.
History
There is little documented history on the orientation so far, but the flag was created by Tumblr user @neopronouns in 2018. No explanation for the symbolism was given at that time, but it's clear that it is a combination of the objectum- and ficto- flags. In 2026, the community officially gave meanings to the flag.In 2010, the YouTube series "Battle for Dream Island" debuted, which features object characters. Ever since then, people have made shows in a similar vein (known collectively as object shows). These shows have led many people in recent times to develop crushes on object characters, and some may be ficto-objectum.The mainstream concept of object characters has existed ever since early animation, with many old cartoons famously anthropomorphizing objects (such as Disney's Silly Symphonies series). Likely due to societal judgement, attraction to them across history has not been documented, but it's also probable that this orientation is just very rare.
